CAROUSEL, 2006:

Investigating games from childhood and there implied adult connotation Lohnes delves into the carousel.

Beneath the playful and benign exterior of a carousel lies a more serious metaphor, one of an adult and disillusioned nature. The brightly colored and carved animals attract attention and in turn, the desire to ride them. Their path is continuous and unaltered, each lined up one after another, never over taking the horse ahead or being bested by the horse behind.

Taking the carousel animals off their circular path, reinterpreting them as human and placing them in a gallery setting, Lohnes highlights an undercurrent of mature wants, exploring desires for fulfillment, material possession, intimacy and the potential for dissipation within each.
