Consume Me, 2005:

Working with notions of expectation, desire and consumption, Lohnes re-appropriates the historical form of the piñata.  These forms explore the themes of desire and expectation and various elements of seduction.

Within the concept of a piñata there lies certain expectations and assumptions of a final out come. If tempted into hitting the piñatas, the viewer is confronted with ideas of expectation, the implied reward, and the possiblity that each will fall short of the participants initial desires. Once the action of hitting the piñata has concluded, it is revealed that the contents of the piñata is not candy and in some cases, is empty.

Each piñata is made with a base of newspaper and a topical layer taken from contemporary women's magazines such as Vogue and Elle. The bodily form is a stylized reference to 1950's pin up girls that is then covered in rainbow colored candies.
