VIDEO VAN, 2011-2015:

Functioning as a movable theater, VIDEO VAN’s mission is to bring video art works to the public via on-street screening tours.  VIDEO VAN is a customized, mobile video presentation unit featuring rear screen projection, pop- out canopy, viewing area with bench seating, and fold-down wings for inclement weather and low lighting needs.

Conceived as a five-year project to include five tours, each tour will feature a new REEL produced with a specific curatorial concept by the director or invited guest curators.  Featured tour REELs will include:  Contest, I Wanted to be a Rockstar, and Performing Object.

Beginning in early 2011 on weekends in Brooklyn and Manhattan, VIDEO VAN will commandeer two public parking spaces, pay for meter fees, and set up a screening area for viewing VIDEO VAN’s first curated tour REEL.  Each viewing will be free to the public. After the initial New York weekends the tour will continue on, stopping in designated cities and neighborhoods, while partnering with museums and non-profit organizations. VIDEO VAN will be within walking distance from each partner institution, yet will focus on bringing awareness of video art to areas of each community which may lack exposure to such work.
